Sendai Tatabata Festival
In some regions in Japan including Sendai City,Tanabata Festival is celebrated on August 7th .
Sendai's Tanabata festival is one of the three biggest, and millions of visitors flock to this city during the Tanabata
season.
Tanabata is a Japanese festival usually celebrated on July 7th every year. It is known as the Festival of the Stars.
According to ancient Chinese legend ,the Weaver Princess (Vega-called "Orihime") and the Cowherd (Altair-called "Hikoboshi")
were said to be lovers. However, the Milky Way separate the lovers and they can meet only once a year on July 7th or
August 7th depending on the lunar or solar calendar.
Celebration of the Tanabata has continued until the present. Although the modern celebration of Tanabata varies widely,
a very common feature of this festival is that people, and particularly children, write their wishes on narrow strips of
colored paper(called "Tanzaku") and hang them ,along with other ornaments, on bamboo branches placed in the backyards
or entrances of their homes .It is said your wishes will come true if you pray hard to those two stars,Orihime and Hikoboshi.
