  1) Culture and Civilization
When you visit Japan for the first time,do not expect to see the streets full of Samurai and Geisha. The lifestyle of the average Japanese has today become almost completely westernized . But beneath Japan's fast moving and modern exterior,its unique culture and customs, formed by centuries of tradition ,are preserved and transmitted thru many generations.
  2) Size of Japan
It's about 378,000 square kilometers . That's about one twenty fifth the size of U.S.A.and that is equal to 0.254% of the land area of the Earth.The islands run in the general northeast to southwest direction and the length is about 3,000 kilometers from Hokkaido to Okinawa.
  3) Population
It's about 127.8 million as of October 1, 2005. That's tenth in the world after China,India,the United States, Indonesia,Brazil,Pakistan,Russian Federation,Bangladesh,Nigeria and Japan. The population density is about 343 persons per square kilometer.Among countries with population of greater than 10 million,that is fourth in the world after Bangladesh,Republic of Korea,Netherlands and Japan.
