"Nishin Goten"(Herring Mansion)
This Building "The Nishin Goten" was originally built in 1897 at Furuu district,coastal location, on the Shakotan Peninsula and it belonged to Tanaka Fukumatsu,one of the leading figure in the fishing workers. But it was moved to its new home at the present place,Shukuktsu, in 1958. About 400 years ago, up to 200 fishermen were stayed in this large building and fished herring and processed them for market. Walking inside , you are able to have a feeling as if you suddenly transported to another world by a time warp. Artwork , tools , photos and many other relics are on display in this building. This building on cape Takashima commands a fine view of the sea of Japan below.
